Musicians Gather for Cebu Guitar Festival 2008

The Cebu Guitar Festival is a gathering of over thirty homegrown, Manila-based and expatriate musicians donating their time and talents in the spirit of camaraderie and love for music. Now on its 2nd year, the event will take place at the Outpost on the evenings of November 27 – 29.

November 27 will highlight acoustic guitar and jazz music and will showcase the talents of Junx Muana and Jonathan Tijano of Hardwood, Scott & Rio, Ang Mga Kabit ni Mrs. Montero, Edgar Nacua, Tito Quijano, Prudence Salutillo, Jake Carvajal, Lui Castillo, Ruth and Juress and classical guitarist Joel Oporto.

Blues & Rock is the theme for Friday, November 28, and featured guitarists will be Henry Tradio, Randy Pages and Arnold "anot" Ang of 40, Edz of the Abyss, Vince Russo, Sam Codilla, Lloyd Escario, Lawrence Ostrea of Pandora, Manny Amador, Archie Uy, William Manuz of Island Joe and Carlo Borromeo and Manila guitarist Noli Aurillo, a veteran of bands such as Coco Jam, Skarlet and Asin

Saturday the 29th will feature Classic Rock and Heavy Metal, and will have the all-star jam with guitarists from all three nights as well as guest Manila musician Sammy Asuncion of SPY and Pinikpikan. Performers for the evening will include, Maki Vaño, Dondon Luche of Hastang, Benjie Rigor, Dave Gonzales, Jon Vistal of Postmortem, Paul Cañada of CDMC, Wilson Yu of Still, Jimik Sacro and Cattski Espina, Randy Pages, Anot, Henri Tradio of 40, Jon Vistal, Jaan Quijano, Ian Zafra of Shiela & the Insects, Franklin Veloso of Powerspoons, Mel Santiago of A2Z, Arciemon of Jr. Kilat.

The 2nd Annual Cebu Guitar Festival is presented by Dream Happy Productions with the support of CALLTEK, JIM BEAM, The Outpost, Sunstar, Bite Magazine, Graphicstar, BT 105.9 Monster Radio, RCTV, Marco Polo Plaza, Laguna Catering and Commissary Center, ABTECH Machineries, Soundballoon, Habagat, Nominated Freight International Services.

Pinas, in Top 10 of worlds best countries for women

Female empowerment is embraced more today than any other time in world history. And in the global push for gender equality in everything from business to politics, education to health, it's Europe that has made the greatest strides to close the so-called gender gap.

Countries in the top 10 include Iceland (80%), New Zealand (79%), the Philippines (76%), Denmark (75%) and the Netherlands (74%). The U.K. ranked 13th (74%), while Canada ranked 31st (71%), hurt by poor showings in educational attainment and political empowerment.

Cebu No. 1 on the Top 50 Emerging Global Outsourcing Cities

Cebu City bests 50 other cities in the world, even China's Shanghai and Beijing as the new Global Outsourcing destination!

Cebu City in the Philippines was ranked No. 1 on the Top 50 Emerging Global Outsourcing Cities list, followed by the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Beijing at second and third places, respectively.

Of the top 50 destinations polled, more than half, or 19 cities, are from Asia, while the rest, comprising 13 cities, are from Central and Eastern Europe.


According to the survey released Monday by IT outsourcing and business process outsourcing (BPO) media company Global Services and investment advisory firm Tholons, choosing the right city has become "more important" than choosing the country when setting up an outsourcing center.
